‘Maldwyn Dragons to Host Deaf-Inclusive Sports Day Inspired by Deaflympics’
To celebrate the upcoming Deaflympics in Tokyo, Maldwyn Dragons Gymnastics Club will host a vibrant, inclusive sports event for deaf children across Powys on Monday, 10th November 2025.
With support from the Access Gymnastics Grant, up to 160 children will take part in a fun-filled day of gymnastics, Zumba, and boxing, with all transport, equipment, and materials provided. Children will be grouped into teams representing continents, echoing the global spirit of the Deaflympics.
Known for its inclusive ethos, Maldwyn Dragons has long welcomed deaf children and introduced innovations like the Inspiro system, which enhances communication via cochlear implants. The event will also highlight the leadership of deaf role models and the club’s commitment to accessibility in sport.
“This is more than just a sports day, it’s a chance for deaf children to connect, build confidence, and thrive,” said Paula Hamer, event coordinator and Sensory Service Specialist HLTA.
Delivered in partnership with Sport Powys, Sport Wales, UK Deaf Sport, and Coleg Powys, the day promises to be a joyful celebration of inclusion, sport, and community.
